Family Third son of Onger the Black, Jarl of Dalsjöfors. His mother died during birth.

Background

Guhrdenn, was the third son of Onger the Black, Jarl of Dalsjöfors. His mother died during his birth, so that, plus being a third son, Guhrdenn was little loved by his father and often treated more poorly then the slave servants. In his youth, the person he grew closest too was the blacksmith, who would tell Guhrdenn great tales of heroic adventures.

During a voyage near the icy Mørkogis of his 2nd Syklus (6+ years), his next older brother grew very ill and died, making Guhrdenn the second son.

At the end of his 2nd Syklus (nearing 12 years), his father's lands were attacked by an army of fearsome and mighty warriors, the Kelgik, intent on conquering the lands. One day in spring, Guhrdenn's eldest brother rode out with a unit of scouts to observe the enemy movements. Only his head returned, mounted on a spike within sight of the main gate to the cities fortifications. Thus Guhrdenn became the first son and heir.

At the peak of Rødlystid (time of red light), the Kelgik had raided the whole of his father's land and ultimately marched an army against his father's army. The battle was a slaughter, with nine men falling for each Kelgik. Although untrained and totally inexperienced with combat, Guhrdenn non-the-less picked up a "sword" to fight off the enemy. As the fates would have it, his first fight brought him face-to-face with the Kelgik commander, Daemyn the Fox, who laughed at the prospect of the boy standing against him. Guhrdenn, of course, was quickly and easily disarmed then taken captive. In the end, the women and young children were taken captive as slaves, but all the men were executed.

Daemyn, amused by Guhrdenn's spirit, took the boy as his servant.

For a full Syklus, Guhrdenn remained with Daemyn, and the Kelgik. He learned their language, their customs, their beliefs and even though a slave, he was trained in the way of their combat. In time, he grew to respect and admire the Kelgik and thought more highly of Daemyn--who was generous, charming and fair with his people--then he ever did of his own father.

However fondly Guhrdenn thought of the Kelgik, he still considered them invaders and held onto the secret ambition to one day free his people and reclaim rule of these lands that he was entitled.

Then, nearing his 4th Skylus, Daemyn and his family were killed by rival Kelgik, the results of a blood feud which had existed for several generations. Guhrdenn had fortunately been out hunting, so was not killed along with them. He returned to find the homes burned and the bodies left for the crows.

No longer having a home, or the protection of Daemyn, Guhrdenn was forced to flee the lands of his heritage, to seek refuge with those opposed to the Kelgik. However, as fate would have it, he had no immediate need of money, for the raiders that killed Daemyn had failed to discover one of his stashes of gold and silver. With this money, Guhrdenn knew he could one day hire men to fight by his side, to deal with threats such as the Kelgik. He vowed to return one day to reclaim his lawful claim as Jurl of Dalsjöfors.

Now, beginning his 4th Syklus (18 years), he stands ready to begin his quest.
