Geography

The world of Halomaed is an Earth-like world with about 74% water and four continents (one small and three large). Equatorial circumference: 24,738 miles.

Calendar

The day is 26 hours in length. The year consists of 351 days, divided into 13 months, each of 27 days. Current date is the 9th of Cettionn, 749.

Months: 1) Dothual, 2) Faemal, 3) Tiashann, 4) Hiadhul, 5) Tharullo, 6) Munetla, 7) Vullias, 8) Srifan, 9) Lanra, 10) Rottithlas, 11) Naffiodhiol, 12) Cettionn, 13) Fithla

The 1st of Dorthual is the first day of the new year, which occurs at the middle of summer (solar equinox).

In the far north and south kingdoms (Jeraemir & Turthann), summer has a 14 hour long day, winter it is only 4 hours

  • Sunrise: 5:57 (1 Dothual ), 11:03 (20 Vullias)
  • Noon: 13:00
  • Sunset: 20:03 (1 Dothual), 14:57 (19 Vullias)
  • Midnight: 26:00

There are two moon (one about 30% larger than the other) which can be seen in the night sky.

  • Genoth (larger moon), with a 32 hour orbit, has a slight reddish tint. Although the moon orbit is not in retrograde, since the orbital period is longer than the 26 hour rotation of the planet, the moon appears to travel from west to east.
  • Rirnen, with a 23 hour orbit. The moon appears to move from east to west, but much slower than the passage of the sun.

The moons on very rare occasions (every 368 years) align perfectly in the night sky in such a way that both become eclipsed by the planet. The last such eclipse was in hour 1 on the day of the 7th of Naffiodhiol, 582.

Seasons

  • Winter (52 days long, 16th Munetla to 13th Srifan), seldom has snow or gets cold enough for ice, but is the most rainy season of the year, with a nearly constant drizzle, and fog is especially common in the mornings, evenings and on chilly especially-overcast days. Average Temp: 56 (high), 34 (low). The mid-winter equinox is midnight of 14th of Vullias.
  • Spring (29 days long, 14th Srifan to 15th Lanra), is just a transition period between the cool, wet winter to the warm summer.
  • Summer (241 days long, 16th Lanra to 13th Tharullo), is the longest season of the year, nearly five times as long as the winter season, and has the warm weather typical of a sub-tropical environment. Rain is regular, but light and generally only in the early morning. Occasional storms will blow in from the sea, which can become violent and dangerous. Average Temp: 78 (high), 62 (low).
  • Fall (29 days long 14th Tharullo to 15th Munetla), the inverse of Spring, with a gradual transition into winter.
