Main: Kaliteth

Geography

The world of Halomaed is an Earth-like world with about 74% oceans and 26% land, with four primary landmasses. Equatorial circumference: 24,738 miles. The planet has an unusual orbit around the sun, causing the climate zones to be shifted about 30-degrees south, along with a 17-degree axial tilt that results in mild seasonal variation.

  • Ibiend: the southernmost continent, third largest landmass, predominately evergreen forests in a temperate-to-subarctic climate.
  • Kaliteth: the lands of Kaliteth make up the smallest of the four primary landmasses, essentially a very large island, subtropic climate in the north to temperate climate in the south.
  • Maliseth: the largest landmass, the equatorial continent belts halfway around the middle of the world, vast jungles and one area of desert, a central tropic climate extending out to temperate in the extreme north and south reaches of the continent.
  • Thaledon: the northernmost continent, second largest landmass, mast northern mountain ranges (tallest and most treacherous terrain on the planet), arctic climate in the north, ranging to temperate climate in the south, but with one stretch of land reaching south to a subtropic climate.

Nations of Humanity

Over the millennia, mankind has spread across much of Halomaed, especially along the coasts accessed by the sailing ships used to venture across the great oceans. Most of humanity is still rather primitive (TL1), living in small wilderness tribes, yet there are areas where humanity has advanced (TL2) and begun to form settlements and lay claim to small areas of land. In the last 500-800 years, five areas have developed a level of civilization that has grown into small nations, possessing the most cultured societies and advanced technologies (TL3^).

  • Eliron: the Empire of Eliron, located in the western most reaches of Thaledon, across the ??? Straights from the Kingdom of Staihlbalt, Chinese style society. The people, Elirons, predominately have amber eyes, light brown or auburn hair, light tan to light brown skin. They have three cities and one very large town as major settlement, and "cantons" as their administrative divisions of the nation.
  • Jeraemir: the Eldmarch of Jeraemir , the most northern nation, located in eastern Thaledon, arctic society, viking-like. The people, Jeraemians, predominately have blue eyes, ultra blond to golden blond hair, pale skin. They have one city (captial) and three large towns as major settlement, and "realms" as their administrative divisions of the nation.
  • Koreld: the Divine Kingdom of Koreld, located in central Maliseth, south of the ??? Islands, Arabic style society. The people, Koreldians, predominately have green eyes, black hair, dark brown skin. They have three cities, including Bakkeran (capital city), and two large towns as major settlements, and "principalities" as their administrative divisions of the nation.
  • Straihlbalt: the Exalted Dominion of Straihlbalt, located in eastern Maliseth, and across the chain of large islands south to Ibiend. Aztec style society. The people, Straihlbians, predominately have brown eyes, black hair, light brown skin. They have three cities and three large towns as major settlements, and "dominions" as their administrative divisions of the nation.
  • Turthann: the Kingdom of Turthann, located primarily in the lands of Ibiend, in the largest stretches of land to the south of Kaliteth, but also with a recent foothold on Kaliteth, is a European style society, with a patriarchal feudal government currently ruled by Lord Gavaed, son of Remion, Baron of Kaedenfel, 42nd King of Turthann. The people, Turthannians, predominately have brown eyes, dark brown to black hair, light tan to peachy skin. The have "baronies" as their administrative divisions of the nation.

Non-Human Races

Although mankind has expanded to much of Halomaed, humanity is not the only sentient humanoid races: dwarves, elves, gnomes, goblins, and orcs all have civilizations with varied forms of government, some with histories longer than humanity. There are also some monstrous creatures, such as centaur, which have primitive societies. However, of these other races, only the dwarven nations have typically associated with humanity. Elves and gnomes are elusive and primarily avoid humans, where as goblins and orcs are generally hostile and more often than not are in conflict with humanity when in contact with each other.

Calendar of Turthann

The world of Halomaed has a 26 hour rotation (day) and makes one revolution around the sun every 351 days (year). Over seven hundred years ago, the scholars of Turthann established a calendar comprised of 13 months, each 27 days in length, with the first of the year occurring at the middle of summer (solar equinox) on the 1st of Dorthual.

Current Date: 9th of Cettionn, 749

Months: 1) Dothual, 2) Faemal, 3) Tiashann, 4) Hiadhul, 5) Tharullo, 6) Munetla, 7) Vullias, 8) Srifan, 9) Lanra, 10) Rottithlas, 11) Naffiodhiol, 12) Cettionn, 13) Fithla

Daylight hours in Turthann vary somewhat by the time of year.

  • Sunrise: 5:57 (mid-summer) to 7:43 (mid-winter)
  • Noon: 13:00
  • Sunset: 20:03 (mid-summer) to 18:49 (mid-winter)
  • Midnight: 26:00

Morning meal: typically between 7:00 to 8:00
Midday meal: typically between 12:30 to 13:30
Evening meal: typically between 18:00 to 19:00

Seasons
Throughout most of the Kingdom of Turthan, including the Barony of Tregenhor on Kaliteth, the lands experience the same changing of the seasons. Being in the most southern reaches of the southern hemisphere, there is a distinct difference between summer and winter, however, the winters are shorter and not nearly as bitter as in the northern hemisphere. The spring and fall are short, merely transitions between summer and winter.

  • Summer (151 days long, 7th Naffiodhiol to 22nd Tiashann)... A temperate climate, with regular rain (generally light and most often only in the morning), but mostly sunny days. Occasional storms (typhoons) will blow in from the sea, which can become violent and dangerous. Average Temp: 78 (high), 56 (low).
  • Fall (52 days long, 23th Tiashann to 20th Tharullo)... the transition into winter brings heavier rains and frequently overcast skies. Average Temp: 52 (high), 38 (low).
  • Winter (96 days long, 21st Tharullo to 8th Lanra)... snow is common, but only heavy in the most southern reaches of Ibiend. The days are often overcast. Average Temp: 34 (high), 14 (low). The mid-winter equinox is midnight of 14th of Vullias.
  • Spring (52 days long, 9th Lanra to 6th Naffiodhiol)... the transition into summer brings a sky constantly blanketed with gray clouds and nearly constant drizzle. Fog is very common, especially in the mornings and evenings, and often becomes quite dense. Average Temp: 52 (high), 38 (low).

Moons
The world of Halomaed has two moons, one about 30% larger than the other, which are both visible to those in the Kingdom of Turthann.

  • Genoth, the larger moon, light-gray in color, has a 27-hour orbit, going through a full lunar cycle each month (27 days), and moves from east to west (just like the sun).
  • Rirnen, with a reddish color, has a very fast 19-hour orbit (in retrograde), going through a full lunar cycle in 11 hours, and moves from west to east across the sky.

Conjunction and Eclipses
Over the course of time, the moons and sun will form conjunction which create an ebb-and-flow in mana, magic tides. On very rare occasions, there are even lunar and solar eclipse.

  • Double Lunar Eclipse, occurs once very 233 years, 11 months at midnight, when the full moons align perfectly in the night sky. The last such eclipse was midnight on 17th Munetla, 516.
