Age of Unrest

During the year of 7958, those in the galaxy witnessed the fall of the Jedi Order, the defeat of the Seperatist leaders, the end of the Clone Wars, and the establishment of the First Galactic Empire. Palpatine’s New Order promise of galactic peace and a defeat of corruption however proved to be far from realized.

  • The Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS), though officially defeated, were far from ready to surrender the fight. Numerous Seperatist installations, bases, and droid armies remained spread throughout the galaxy, each determined to “fight to the last”.
  • Isolated groups who had been loyal to the Republic, and the Jedi, were actively politicking in an effort to form alliances with the intent of gaining enough influence to officially revoke Palpatine’s self-granted title and restore the Republic. Some of the more extreme even secretly built militant cells with plans to oppose the Imperial forces.
  • Civil unrest was at an all-time-high, especially among the highly emotional youths who were overly confident and eager to fight. Protests were common in most systems and often erupted into riots.
  • Criminal syndicates, which had risen in power during the period of the Clone Wars, were gaining an even greater level of influence and expanding their operations, hidden within the state of chaos spread across the Empire.

Despite the political and military turmoil in the Empire, within the first months of this New Order, Palpatine ordered an end to further production of clone trooper. The remaining clone troopers were redesignated as Imperial Stormtroopers, the elite commando shock troopers. Extensive propaganda programs were initiated in an attempt to shift the public opinion of the Empire and encourage enlistment into the volunteer Imperial Army. When enlistment numbers initially proved not to be as high as desired, policies were modified to authorize the forced conscription of individuals who had been convicted of prisonable crimes.

The Imperial Army, championed by the Stormtroopers and commanded by some of the most cruel and ruthless generals in history, executed an aggressive militant campaign tasked with the goal of establishing order. These generals were granted the highest levels of authority and autonomy to command their forces and govern the sectors under their charge. Some of the most zealous even went to such extremes as genocide of entire populations on especially rebellious planets.

Aside from a few, small cells of resistance, the regions of Core systems were mostly secured. Much of the great campaign to restore order was focused on the Expansion Region and on outward to the Outer Rims.

It was during this Age of Unrest, the decades leading up the fall of the Empire, when the seeds of rebellion took root and those who resisted grew to one day become the heroes of the Rebel Alliance.
